Amaretto Sour

A cocktail as maligned as the Amaretto Sour can be great with just a little effort and appreciation for the ingredients. On Puppet Tavern, Bennett looks at the history of this cocktail, its impact on the cocktail movement, and its eventual redemption at the hands of Jeffery Morgenthaler.

The Amaretto Sour, by Jeffery Morgenthaler

1.5oz Amaretto (Bennett used Lazzaroni Amaretto)

.75oz Overproof Bourbon

1oz Fresh Lemon Juice

1 teaspoon Rich Simple Syrup

Egg White

Procedure: Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin and shake with ice. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.

Garnish: Lemon twist and brandied cherry (optional)

Bonus Cocktail Recipe – The Godfather

2oz Scotch Whisky

1 bar spoon to .25oz Amaretto, depending on the Scotch

2 dashes Angostura Bitters (optional)

Procedure: Add all ingredients to a rocks glass over ice. Stir.
